JOHN REISCHMAN and the JAYBIRDS (CANADA / USA) (9.15pm)

"Hop High My Lulu Gal" (live) video link

Grammy Award winner John Reischman and the Jaybirds put their own particular stamp on bluegrass, old time and acoustic roots music, with a satisfying blend of traditional and modern styles, and they also give the impression that they really enjoy playing together. There’s plenty here to please both bluegrass traditionalists and lovers of modern American folk music, especially for those with an appreciation of great harmony singing as well as masterful instrumental playing.   – Folk Radio U.K.

Support from The Quicksilver Kings (8.15pm) "The Man With No Heart" video link

"The Quicksilver Kings create a classic folk-rock'n'roll sound that blends the worldly-wise blues-soaked vocals of a young Bob Dylan with rootsy chord progressions and steady beats to superb effect. Close your eyes and you could be hitching a ride on a US railroad circa 1969."

Festival performances include Cambridge, Gate to Southwell, Wath, Lyme Folk Weekend, Trinity, Bloom (Dublin) and Purbeck. No strangers to large venues, Ranagri have performed at Birmingham Symphony Hall, Fairfield Halls, The Union Chapel, Buxton Opera House and Camac Harp Festival in France to name a few. Combining their love for world music, they have collaborated with top Indian musician Kuljit Bhamra OBE, and members of Britten Sinfonia at The Bhavan Centre, London.

Ranagri toured in 2017 with Justin Currie (of Del Amitri) at Islington Assembley Halls, Perth Concert Hall, Holmfirth Picturedrome and Cambridge Junction, followed by a tour of Scotland and Germany whilst writing and recording their latest album ‘Playing For Luck’ at Stockfisch Studios throughout 2018.

Support from Yan Tan Tether (8pm) "Greenland" video link

Yan Tan Tether is a female close harmony folk trio from Otley, West Yorkshire consisting of Rosie Knighton, Tess Leslie and Lynne O’Malley. They have been singi...ng together since September 2013 and have already built up a reputation in the local folk clubs and festivals around Yorkshire. They play a host of instruments between them (piano, banjo, guitar, fiddle) but concentrate mostly on creating beautiful a capella arrangements of traditional and more modern folk songs. Their voices blend as if they were family who have been singing together for years, creating spine-tingling harmonies interspersed with some rollicking good chorus songs. Their music has been played on the Mike Harding Folk Show who describes them as the “Golden Tonsils of Otley!”

THE TRIALS OF CATO (9pm) "Gloria" video link

The Trials of Cato, a band that arrived fully formed and functioning from Beirut in the winter of 2016, have since torn a shape very much their own into the canvas of the UK folk scene. Originally from North Wales and Yorkshire, whilst living in Lebanon they spent a year boiling down the roots of their sound into a hybrid of traditional influences that intrigued Lebanese audiences in the country’s biggest venues.

They moved back to the UK and have since been performing tirelessly up and down the country. Their musical development in the run up to their debut album proper has been swift and sure, winning much praise for Hide and Hair and receiving repeated national airplay on BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music.

Praised for the diversity of their material and influences, The Trials of Cato live show "invariably stuns audience wherever they play." Whether plying their trade busking, performing in front of thousands at festivals across Europe, or frequently selling out their own club shows, The Trials of Cato have the wind behind them.

Support from Crooked Weather (8pm) "Stoney Bay Blues" video link

Crooked Weather are a rock infused folk band, based out of a tragic mustard 1979 campervan. They hail from the depths of East Yorkshire, with the lilting harmonies of Holly & Will at the core. Their original music, steeped in the folk revival of the late 60's, has a raw, modern edge, augmented by Tom and Dave: a fierce rhythm section.

"They are indie meets world music meets traditional British folk. Think a contemporary Incredible String Band with a 21st century mindset." - Sid Griffin (Bob Dylan Biographer // BBC Radio 6 Music)
